Adam calls his minimalist style of visual design “messymod,” short for Messy Modernism. It’s born from his love of geometry, patterns, negative space, Bauhaus, Miró and a little too much caffeine. He explores the spaces between art and design, complexity and simplicity, organic and machined, static and kinetic, familiar and surreal.

 

Adam is the Co-Founder & Creative Director at TRÜF, a Los Angeles design studio specializing in visual identity and illustration. He has designed corporate identities for Adidas, DreamWorks, University of California and countless other companies and institutions that span from arts and media, tech and finance, to culture and education.

What is Art for you?

Art is the visual expression of imagination and emotion.

What is chocolate to you?

Chocolate is a time machine! Taste and smell are such strong senses, and the taste and smell of chocolate easily transports me to different times and places throughout my life (in a good way).

What inspires you, and this piece in particular?

My inspirations are wide-ranging and eclectic. They can be anything from music, to food, to architecture to…whatever. I try to stay wide open. “New Year” is inspired by my interest in strange typography that tends to defy convention. “Nervous Energy” was inspired by artwork I designed for a popular DJ. It’s reminiscent of hands and electricity around a turntable console.
