Ann Sabbah Denver, Colorado
I paint with oils, pastel and casein. My art is influenced by my previous work as a photography editor. I look for things like striking color, contrast, shadow, backlight. I'm also an arts facilitator. In 2020 I founded the Denver Fringe Festival, an inclusive and innovative arts festival that supports the development of new work by independent artists and performers.
What is Art for you?
Art is self-expression in all forms. Art connects, heals and transforms us. It is the essence of being human.
What is chocolate to you?
Chocolate is a sweet morsel - a way to celebrate each day with something that indulges and delights the senses.
What inspires you, and this piece in particular?
My biggest inspiration in my art is light - the way something is illuminated and how the quality of light changes colors, shapes and textures. As a third-generation Coloradan, I am also inspired by the sheer beauty of this state.
This painting was inspired by the motion I saw in a particular sunset one evening near Tabernash, Colorado, like a slow-motion dance across the sky.
